Hello and welcome to my website! That’s me (to the left) – Mikayla Martinsen.  I’m a 37-year old WAHM (Work At Home Mom) with two amazing kids. My kids are the best part of me and they inspire me everyday to be the best I can be, to be a better person, and to make the world a better place. They also help remind me why failure is not an option – I’ve got two kids to put through college! In a nutshell, they are the driving force in my life, my strength, and the loves of my life.

When I’m not building my business or taking care of the kids, I’m either nurturing my love for vampires and all things mystical (Yes, I love the Twilight series, True Blood, and witches too!) or I’m focused on my personal growth and development. I believe personal and spiritual development is vital, so I’m always listening to audios, reading books, finding inspiring quotes, and doing positive affirmations or EFT. I’m a complete personal development junkie!

It All Started With Crystal and Candles

I started my direct sales and network marketing journey back in 1998, when my daughter was 5 years old. I needed a way to earn some extra money, so I started selling crystal housewares  for a popular direct sales company. It was fun for awhile and I still have a pretty nice collection of pretty sparkling things. However, it wasn’t long before I realized that a consumable product was a much better business decision, because let’s face it – a girl can only have so many crystal vases! ;) Not long after that, I started a business with a popular candle company. I LOVED that business and honestly still use their candles to this day (I admit it – I’m a sucker for delicious scents) but a troubled marriage forced me to quit that business and focus on my family for awhile.

Then I Found a New World Online

In late 2006, I happened upon a couple of online opportunities and what seemed like a whole new world opened up to me. I had no idea that people made real money online! I thought that making money online was all about “scams” and “get rich quick schemes” – but I was very wrong about that. I was eventually  introduced to affiliate marketing, which is basically a business model where you earn a commission for the sale of a product or service that you helped make happen. I LOVE the affiliate marketing business model because it allows people to get started online very quickly, it’s a lot of fun, and it’s something I still enjoy.

I also tried to build another network marketing business – this time online. I was still pretty green when it came to marketing online and I had a horrible sponsor… he literally signed me up and I never heard from him again. Without a support system and with some unrealistic expectations, I had failure on my hands. Though I understood the power of residual income, I pretty much decided network marketing wasn’t for me and plowed full steam ahead into affiliate marketing.

During this time, I devoured every piece of information I could find on Internet marketing. I bought more ebooks than I can count, I read blogs, I joined coaching programs, I joined webinars and teleseminars, I bought video training programs so I could look over the “gurus” shoulders, and I tried just about everything. I failed a lot along the way, but I learned a tremendous amount too and eventually started generating a decent income from my efforts.

I also taught myself  HTML and some CSS too – the languages required to create websites. I began dabbling in editing and manipulating graphics and images and I started my first website. And then I found WordPress… and I fell head over heels in love with it! It makes building a website easier than ever and it has literally changed my life.

Making the Most of My New Online Skills

My knowledge of WordPress and Internet marketing (what some would call “technical savvy”) led me to become an Internet Marketing Consultant in 2008. Up until that point, I hadn’t realized just how much knowledge I had acquired -  WordPress, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Social Media Marketing (SMM), and the various other areas of Internet marketing techniques – such as content marketing, forum marketing, affiliate marketing, niche marketing, etc. – I loved it all! I found myself in a position where companies that wanted a stronger online presence were willing to pay me for doing something I loved – pretty cool! I also went back to school and got my MBA, which gave me a nice firm business foundation. With my enhanced business knowledge and Internet marketing skills, I became a self-employed full-time WAHM!

A New Opportunity, An Awesome Sponser, and Residual Income

Around 2009, I got a call from a dear friend of mine who told me about an exciting new network marketing company.  After giving it some thought, I realized I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be a part of great company and to finally have a sponsor who I trusted and knew would support me. Plus, I recognized how much I’d grown since I first tried building a network marketing business online – I realized the skill set and knowledge I now possessed would provide me with an edge that I didn’t have before.

After a little more than a year, I decided to end my time with that company, though I value my time there tremendously. I connected with some great people, I learned what works for me and what doesn’t, I learned what types of compensation plans I will and will NOT consider, and it became very  clear exactly what I wanted from a network marketing company. I found everything I’ve  been looking for and more in Skinny Body Care.
