Juggling two kids, my MBA classes, and my business got to be a little overwhelming over the last few months. BUT I finished my MBA 2 weeks ago (woo hoo) and the kids are on break, so my schedule is a little more flexible now.

Given my unplanned “hiatus” from my blog, I thought I should write about the biggest consequence of my absence – lack of consistent action. While I was off taking care of everything I obviously failed to consistently update my blog and even lagged on many of my online marketing campaigns. Now what do I have to show for it – a loss of momentum in my blog, in my online marketing efforts, and in my business – UGH! That results in fewer leads, fewer prospects, fewer sponsors, less commissions, and less money. Not good. You’ve probably heard it many times before – consistent action is vital to your success – but do you truly understand WHY?

Here are five reasons why consistent action is vital to your success:

1. It builds momentum. It’s great to take massive action and do big things, but that can prove difficult if you’re working a regular j-o-b or if you have a bunch of different obligations (like me). So, instead you can take small steps – each and every day – that will build momentum in your business and a similar effect on the end result. I’m going to commit to working on my blog for at least an hour a day from now on, which will include posts, planning posts, videos, SEO, promotion, and more. Can you commit to working on your business for at least an hour a day?

2. It keeps you focused. Doing something everyday will help you maintain your focus on your goals and your overall objectives. Staying focused is an important part of success. If you focus on your goals every day and take action towards achieving them, success is inevitable.

3. It solidifies your commitment. Most human beings are naturally ingrained to want to complete what we start. It’s hard, I know, but staying committed is really a natural state that our minds would prefer to stay in. It’s only after we failed a few times and acquired a fear of repeating our mistakes does our natural propensity towards commitment wane. But, when you take consistent action each day then you start to see your efforts of work and time as an investment… which naturally makes you more committed.

4. It reduces the chances of getting overwhelmed. This is a big one for me. I have some pretty lofty goals and a “to do” list that could make you cry, so I battle with feeling overwhelmed all too often. I find that when I break things down into smaller tasks that will allow me to do them a little bit over time it takes the edge off that “oh my gosh, how I am ever going to be able to do this!?” feeling.

5. It develops positive habits. They say that anything you do for at least 30 days will become a habit. So, if you start building your business a little bit each and every day and stick to it, pretty soon it will become habit and it will be easier than it was when you started out. You’ll find a rhythm to your work (and hopefully your day) which will continue to build momentum, your business, and your bank accounts.

What do YOU think? Tell me why consistent action is important to you and your business!
