I Lacked Focus and Thought About Joining the Circus

focus1 300x300 I Lacked Focus and Thought About Joining the CircusLast week was crazy for me! I was working on various aspects of my promotional plan for our upcoming Maakoa meeting.  This included finalizing the promotional web page, making sure the follow up system was in place and functional, designing and ordering flyers and door hangers, and much more. I was also in the middle of a team project for my business statistics class that was more work than I bargained for. On top of that, it was also pouring rain all week! The rain caused my power to go out periodically and my water was being cut off & on as well due to a pipe problem in my building (which was a complete pain, let me tell you!). I felt like I was juggling a million things all at once! Now, I love the Ringling Brothers Circus and the Cirque Du Soleil, but let me tell you – there is a reason I didn’t join the circus – juggling is not my thing. ;) I like structure. I like organization. I like things to be planned and mapped out.

By the end of the week, I realized that several of the things that I needed to get done were pushed aside. I didn’t even make one blog post last week, which is a part of my weekly goals and my marketing plan. What I realized by the weekend was that although I got a lot done, the things I needed to focus on did not get the attention they deserved. So, today I wanted to talk a little bit about the importance of focus.

Dictionary.com defines focus as, “a central point, as of attraction, attention, or activity.” I think that’s a great way of describing it because, to me, focus is all about where you place your attention, what you are attracting into your life and into your business, and the activities that you are engaging in to achieve your goals. You must focus on your goals daily. This includes focusing on completing daily activities that will take you one step closer towards reaching your goals. When you focus on one task at a time, you will be more productive.

Focus requires personal discipline and intention.  You’ve got to decide what you’re going to focus on each day, what tasks you will complete, and then get them done.  For me, this meant I needed to revisit my marketing plan and make sure that is was both realistic and that it fit into a schedule that I could follow. I am notorious for trying to do too much, having a jam packed day planned that would probably be unrealistic for most people, and then feeling like I didn’t accomplish what I needed to at the end of the day. So, I reassessed the situation. I made out a clear schedule, a few to do lists, and I’m back on track!

I got a ton of stuff done yesterday – everything on my to do list – and this morning I feel great. What I realized is that if my goal was to join the circus or to be the best juggler – I could do it! :) I would simply need to set that goal, make that my intention, map out a plan, and focus on reaching that goal. For now, I’m going to stick with building my business as an Internet network marketer and providing you with useful information in the process. The important thing to remember is that focus is a vital component to your success and with it, commitment, and consistent action you WILL achieve success.
