What I Do to Handle Stress and Lack of Confidence
Posted in My Journey on 28. Feb, 2010
February has been a difficult month for me… hence the lack of regular posts. I realized last night that I would serve you better, as my readers, by sharing my struggles with you. So here it is…
The second week of the month I was in charge of a big opportunity meeting for my primary business, Maakoa. It was success… but I stressed so hard about it beforehand that I made myself sick! I’m not kidding. Why was I so stressed? Well, I was worried about disappointing my sponsor and the other leaders that flew in from out of town. I was obsessed with the turnout. What it came down to is that lacked confidence and belief in myself.
That stress and worry took it’s toll on me. It led me down a stinkin’ negativity spiral that I had to work really REALLY hard to untangle over the last couple weeks. I found it challenging to focus and to get things done. It pretty much sucked.
So, what did I do?
Well, first and foremost, I began focusing on what matters most in my life and being grateful for those things. I also decided I needed to revisit all of the valuable things I’ve learned while on my personal development journey over the pas few years. It has really helped. Here are a few things I’ve begun doing each day to keep my head on straight.
- I’m writing down 5 things I’m grateful for each day. I call this being “Grounded by Gratitude” and it is powerful. It really helps shift your perspective and focus on what matters most.
- I’m reading my favorite positive affirmations at least once a day. I’ve got a beautiful deck of Wisdom Cards by Louise Hay that is full of really inspiring ones.
- I’ve been tapping away my limiting beliefs. I was reminded of this technique by the 2010 World Tapping Summit that launched last week. I’ll admit that the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) looks a little silly when it’s being done, but I’m someone who can testify that it actually does work.
- I’ve been focusing on my goals at least 3 times a day. When I wake in the morning, during the day, and before I go to bed I review them. It’s important to focus on your goals in order to achieve them.
- I’ve recommitted to reading and listening. I’m still reading the Cashflow Quadrant by Robert Kiyosaki, but I’ve got a list of books that are on my “What’s Next” list. I’m also listening to some powerful audio programs while I perform the more tedious tasks throughout my day.
Now, these methods and techniques may not be for you, but they work for me. The point is I’m not letting a difficult month, stress, and limiting beliefs hold me back. I’m not giving up and I never will! I’m excited about March and I’ve set some new goals and put new strategies in place to achieve them. If you run into a stressful month or moments of doubt (which most people inevitably do) I encourage you to find what works best for you. I’d love to hear about what methods you use to stay positive and focused during times of stress, so be sure to leave me a comment!
