Do you have a Google Voice number yet? If you’ve never heard of it, Google Voice gives you a free local phone number that you can use for all your phones, so it can ring all your numbers (cell phone, home phone, etc.) or just the one, depending on your personal preference. It also has text messaging, voicemail that’s as easy as email, and free US long distance. Here’s a quick overview video that explains what Google Voice is all about.
A Google Voice Setup Perfect for Home Business Owners
My favorite thing about Google Voice is the many features it has that are simply perfect for home business owners! Here are some great Google Voice setup tips you can use today:
1 – Set your Google Voice number to ring your home or cell phone – You choose. This option allows you to set your Google Voice number to ring either number – or both - depending on your preference. The benefit here is that the people calling don’t have to actually know your home or cell phone numbers. So, you can give out your Google Voice number to everyone, while keeping your home and cell phone numbers private.
2- Set your Google Voice number to only ring during specific hours – This allows you to set office hours, like any business person should. I love this feature because if someone on the East Coast tries to call me and doesn’t realize that it’s only 5am my time, Google Voice will simply send them to voice mail so I can sleep and then I can call them back when I’m awake and alert. Cool.
3 – Set it to show your Google Voice number on your caller ID – This is an option that’s provided in your Google Voice settings. You can configure your Google Voice setup to either display the phone number of the caller or the Google Voice number itself. I set mine to display the Google Voice number because it allows me to always know when I’m getting a business call on my cell phone. That way I can be sure to answer it and be ready to respond appropriately.
4 – Share your Google Voice number everywhere, even all over the Internet - Why? Because Google Voice allows you to block spam callers! I am a million times more liberal with my Google Voice number than I am with my cell or home phone numbers because if a phone spammer gets my Google Voice number (which they often do), then I can simply “block them.” Then, the next time that spammer calls me they get a disconnected message – nuisance gone! Easy.
Those are my four favorite Google Voice setup tips – what do you think? Do you use Google Voice and if so, what do you like most about it? Leave me a comment below and let me know! And if you enjoyed this post, I hope you’ll considering sharing it with others too.
