The New Year always comes with renewed motivation to make changes and to accomplish new goals. But when the shine wears off, it can be hard to maintain the drive that’s required to continue pushing forward toward your dreams. Here are 10 motivational strategies you can use to ensure you keep taking consistent action toward your goals.
- Set SMART goals and create a plan. You can read all about SMART goal setting in yesterdays post. Be sure you include a time management plan, complete with action steps and a timeline for completion.
- Read your goals every day. One of the personal development tasks I’ve added my Toodledo task manager is to read my goals every day. This helps to remind me what goals I’m shooting for every day, so that I can focus on completing the action steps needed to accomplish them.
- Put goal reminders up everywhere. This goes well with the strategy above – keeping you focused on your goals. So break out your post-it notes and put your goals all over place – on your fridge, bathroom mirror, in your car, etc.
- Repeat positive affirmations daily. I use positive affirmations to reprogram my subconscious mind, so it can help me move in the direction of my goals. A good rule of thumb is to repeat your chosen affirmations at least 5 minutes per day.
- Remind yourself WHY you set your goals. It helps to constantly remind yourself about the people and the things that are motivating you to do what you’re doing.
- Read positive, motivational quotes daily. It’s can be a challenge to stay positive at times… and when you’re feeling negative it’s even more difficult to stay motivated. So start your day with a positive quote! You can even post them on your computer wallpaper, tape them to your wall and mirrors too.
- Create a vision board. It’s strongly advised that “write down” your goals and even craft a mission statement that details your expected outcome. It’s also great to use the power of visualization so you can paint a vivid picture in your mind of where you’ll be when you reach your goals. A vision board is a poster with pictures and images that represent your dreams.
- Find an accountability partner. This is someone who will hold you accountable for getting things done! Find someone you trust and agree to hold each other accountable for doing what’s needed to get you one step closer toward your goals each day. Agree to check in on each others progress and give each other pep talks, when needed.
- Listen to subliminal recordings. I have subliminal recordings for success, motivation, confidence, attracting money, and more. Since these positive messages are placed under soothing recordings of ocean or nature sounds, I simply play them while I work throughout the day. Subliminal learning bypasses your conscious learning experience and sends information directly to your unconscious mind. When you listen to the same subliminal messages frequently, you’ll see a positive shift in your beliefs.
- Watch uplifting movies that inspire you. You should keep a list of uplifting movies that you know make you feel good and inspired when you’re done watching them. A few of my favorite inspiring movies include The Pursuit of Happyness, Braveheart, and Cinderella Man. You can find a list of other motivational movies here.
