I’ve shared several blogging tips with you over the past few weeks, but I haven’t gone into much detail about how to promote your blog posts so I’m going to do that today. Blog promotion is another important aspect of your blogging strategy. In addition to writing great content and creating value for your readers, you also need to promote your posts. Blog promotion allows people to actually find your articles, read them, and share them, which helps you reach your blogging goals (i.e. increasing sales, building your list, etc.). To get you off to an awesomely powerful start, I’m sharing 4 of my favorite free blog promoting tips with you today.
1 -Traffic Launchpad
Traffic Launchpad is a fairly new tool from the creators of Traffic Kaboom. It’s a simple, free software that allows you to submit your website to a long list of websites so that you can increase the number of backlinks to your blog. The more backlinks you have the more exposure and potential traffic you have, not to mention the boost in search engine rankings you are likely to get. You simply download the Traffic Launchpad software and add your blog information to the 3 simple fields and then run it. After running it, you’re done because you only need to do it once (though if you have more than one blog or website, you can definitely run it for each one). Easy peasy.
2 – Social Bookmarking
I’ve mentioned OnlyWire before, but they are worth mentioning again when it comes to social bookmarking. It’s my favorite social bookmarking service available because I find their service both effective and efficient. OnlyWire now offers up to 50 different services you can use for your submissions, so it’s more powerful than ever.
3 – Facebook Groups
I submit my blog posts to my Facebook wall and pages automatically using NetworkedBlogs, but I also post them in several different targeted groups as well to increase exposure. When I post in my Facebook groups, I actually rotate the links I post using my main blog link, my NetworkedBlogs shortened link, and my Empower Network blog link. I also stagger my posts by posting to about 5 groups every 30-60 minutes, so that I don’t aggravate Facebook (I don’t want them thinking I’ve become a spammer). You can do your group posts manually for free, or you can use a Hootsuite Pro account to automate your Facebook group postings using their publisher feature. For me, $5.99/month is totally worth the time saved and all of the additional pro features you get with the paid membership.
4 – Blog Communities
Blog communities (also sometimes called blog aggregators) allow you to submit your blog content and then it’s sorted based on popularity and time. There are several blog communities available now, but BlogEngage is definitely at the top of my list and one that I recommend. Becoming a free BlogEngage member will increase your exposure, especially if you become an active member of the community. The Blog Engage RSS Syndication service is a paid membership that will further increase your exposure while automating your submissions. Other free blog communities I like include Blokube, BizSugar, and SERPd. A cool tip I want to offer you about SERPd is that if your blog is primarily about Internet marketing & SEO, you can add it as one of your OnlyWire services to automate your submissions there for free!
Those are just 4 of my powerful but free blog promoting tips. They’re easy to implement, but do not underestimate them… when done consistently, they can generate a good amount of traffic and exposure for your blog. You’ll also want to expand on your promotion strategy over time. I believe it’s important to leverage your time, so I recommend a strategy that mixes automation with networking, like the Ultimate Blog Challenge promotion strategy I shared with you earlier this year. What are your favorite blog promotion tips? I’d love to hear about ‘em, so leave me a comment below.

Thanks for the kuddos, Kenny! I agree with you about social bookmarking and its effectiveness. It’s easy too, especially if you use a WordPress plugin to automate things. I use the OnlyWire automated posting plugin and Auto Social Buddy (which comes with the premium version of Auto Traffic Buddy). One thing bloggers need to remember about using more than one social bookmarking plugin is to be careful not to double dip! Many social bookmarking plugins offer submissions to the same sites, so you need to be careful when setting up your plugins that they’re not submitting the same posts to the same sites multiple times, or it looks spammy. It’s easy enough to avoid this by simply being careful to check the sites on each of the plugins during setup. It takes a little extra time, but it’s worth it. See you on BlogEngage!

Hi Sylviane, I’m glad you found a few new tips that you can use. I find that making a checklist of all the promotional tasks I perform for each post helps to make sure I don’t forget anything. Then I maximize exposure and gain multiple backlinks as well. Thank you for taking the time to comment!
Mikayla,
I absolutely loved your tips! I’ve used Hootsuite as well, it’s a nice little software to manage our social networking profiles. And given that managing it is very time-consuming, I have to say that it is a must for all marketers who give loads of priority on their social media presence
Thanks for this article. Happy holidays! .

I agree, Debbie – Hootsuite is awesome. I’ve tried TweetDeck, Digsby, and Seesmic Desktop, but I always go back to Hootsuite! Happy Holidays to you too!!

These are great suggestions Mikayla. I picked up some tips as well with regard to the Empower Network blog. Most of us strive to generate leads online for our businesses and it looks like Empower may be a key to driving even more traffic to our personal sites. I am definitely looking into it. Thanks for sharing.

You bet, Joe! The Empower Network viral blogging system is a GREAT way to increase traffic and backlinks to your blog and other personal websites too. The traffic that the network is getting right now is crazy (more than Avon.com… more than Oprah.com… wow!) and you can bet as EN grows, it will just get better. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
