MyBlogLog is Being Discontinued – Now What?

MyBlogLog used to be a wonderful blogging community owned by Yahoo. I used to use my MyBlogLog account to interact with like-minded bloggers, to check out some useful analytics, and to gain new readers to my blog while doing it. However, a recent announcement came directly from Yahoo indicating that MyBlogLog is being discontinued. Here’s a part of the their official statement:

Yahoo! MyBlogLog will be discontinued as of May 24, 2011. After this date, you will be unable to access your Yahoo! MyBlogLog account and any information in it. We apologize for the change, and for any inconvenience this may cause.

I haven’t been an active MyBlogLog community member in awhile, so this does not affect me much, but I do think its unfortunate that this service is ending. So, I thought I’d share a few other blog directories/communities that I enjoy and that you can use to interact with other bloggers while promoting your blog.

BlogCatalog

Blog Catalog is is actually a blog directory with a social community component. You can list your blog, connect with other bloggers, and join in on some lively discussions. If you’re looking to promote your blog, find blogs on topics that interest you, or connect with other bloggers, BlogCatalog is great site for you.

Blog Frog is a site where you can list your blog and create your own “blog community” within Blog Frog. You can then place a “Community Widget” on your blog to connect your blog to your Blog Frog Community. It offers a great way to interact with other like-minded bloggers and build a base of bloggers that are part of your blog community. It’s especially good if your target market is women (or  moms) as there are many of us that are a part of Blog Frog :)

Blog Engage Blog Engage is more of a blog aggregator with a community component that is developed through their forum. Blog Engage allows you to submit your blog posts to the Blog Engage site so they can be reviewed and promoted by other members. In my opinion, Blog Engage is better at building traffic and backlinks to your blog then it is at building a blog community – simply because of the way its designed – but I enjoy it none-the-less.

Hopefully these three blog communities will provide you some options to connect with bloggers and promote your blog. Please leave me a comment to let me know what blog community is your favorite – I’d love to hear from you! :)

It really is sad the MyBlogLog is closing down, but Yahoo didn’t pay much attention to it anyway so I guess it was bound to be shut down. It was an attractive place, especially for new bloggers

Hi Nishadha, I agree with you – Yahoo didn’t give MyBlogLog the attention it deserved. It used to be a great community and, with some nurturing, MyBlogLog could have grown into something really great. Makes me wonder what would have come of it if Google would have bought it ;)
